Happy New Year!
A new year brings a new start and new opportunities! Many adults sit down and think about what they are going to do different to make this year better, so why not sit down with your children and have them think about what they are going to do better? Pull out those goals that your child wrote at the beginning of the school year and begin doing some revisions and additions. Good writers are constantly revising. Revising goals and setting new ones is not any different. Perhaps there will be some goals on the list that have been met and can be crossed off. The ability to cross off a goal is a gives your child a feeling of accomplishment. Think about these suggestions when you sit down with your child to make New Year’s Resolutions:
1. Cross off any goals that have been achieved.
2. Add new goals. Goals can be school related, personal, or have to do with extra-curricular activities.
3. Have your child write the goals down. This is an important step to developing your child’s writing skills. Any kind of writing helps improve your child’s ability to write.
Haven’t sat down and created goals with your child? The new year creates a new opportunity to do so. It could be an activity you do on New Year’s Day together. It could even become a tradition, and a great habit to instill in your child!
