Halloween Tear Art

halloweentearThis is a simple Halloween art project that will promote fine motor skills and artistic creativity. Teaching a child to tear paper helps build finger muscles that will eventually be used in writing and cutting with scissors.

Materials:
Orange paper
Black paper
White paper
Brown marker
Glue

First, take the orange paper and show your child how to pinch and tear it. The orange paper could be construction paper, wrapping paper, or cardstock. In the example, tissue paper was used for the orange.

Next, draw a pumpkin shaped circle on the white paper. Glue the torn pieces of orange paper within the circle. It does not have to look perfect. Your child can be as creative as they would like with the size and shape of the pumpkin.

Finally, tear the black paper into pieces to represent the eyes, nose, and mouth. Glue them into place on top of the orange paper that has created the pumpkin.

We took a brown marker and drew the stem on the top of the pumpkin, but there is no reason that it could not be torn brown paper too. Your tear art can now be displayed as a Halloween decoration!

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
