How Does Your Child Learn?
When helping your child to learn new information you may want to ask yourself, “How does my child learn?”
All children are different, which means that they learn in different ways. If you identify what your child’s strength is, you will be successful in helping them. Here are three basic ways a child can learn:
Auditory-These children learn with their ears. They are very good listeners. They can sometimes say the answer, but not write it down. Read information aloud to an auditory learner. These children remember best when making up rhymes or acronyms (mnemonic devices) to match the information they are trying to learn.
Visual-These children learn with their eyes. They can easily remember something that they see. They may have a “photographic memory,” and will see patterns easily. Writing down information, flash cards, and pictures will help these children learn.
Kinesthetic-These children learn by doing. They may have to move around while they are studying. Allow them to stand if they would like. Experiments, acting out a scene, field trips, and taking breaks by moving around help these children learn.
Encourage your child to use different methods of learning when studying. This way they can come up with a method that works best for them.
