3 Free Summer Activities for Children

Summertime activities can be both fun and educational. Here are some ideas to encourage your children to learn and have fun at the same time!

1. Go to the Library. Check out your local library for reading programs. Some even have a story time you can take your child to. Make going to the library a weekly excursion. Curiosity about books and learning begins when children are very young.

2. Play in the sand. The Summer is a great time to go to the beach. Playing in the sand builds creativity, imagination, and motor skills. If you don’t have a beach nearby, a sandbox will do. You can easily create one with a large plastic storage box (one that is used for wrapping paper) and some sterile sand from your local home store.

3. Have a picnic. Pack a picnic for a family outing or invite the neighbor kids for a picnic in your own front yard! It is an excellent time to teach and enforce good manners. You could even have that picnic at the beach or a lake where your kids could play in the sand.

These activities are entertaining, educational, and free too!
